Contracts Engineer mainly deals with the legalities of the contracts, documentation, draft letters, interpretation of contracts clauses and working on the contractual condition of the contract, between the clients and contractor. Further, as such contracts engineer works between two parties. Accordingly, their job can take on a lot of responsibilities and duties.

Contracts Engineer main role in a construction project are:-

Draft daily contractual letters/correspondence to the client and subcontractors:-
Contracts engineer draft contractual letters for the extension of times, extra items, claims, variation and other requisite submissions and further get them approved by the Project Manager, accordingly send it to the client, subcontractors, and other government bodies.

Prepare Contract Appreciation Documents (CAD):-
Contracts engineer are often required important clause and condition of contract for drafting letters and during the discussion with clients. Since the contract documents consist of a large number of pages and difficult to remember every page of the contract condition. Accordingly, contracts engineer enlist all the important clauses and conditions from the contract documents and convert into a searchable form which further helps contracts engineer to search and further helps contracts engineer to draft letters.

Identifying risk and develops a risk mitigation plan:-
Contracts Engineer should familiar with the contract clauses and condition of the contract agreement. Subsequently, make detail analysis of risk in the following stages:-
  1. Tender Stage
  2. Project planning and procurement stage
  3. Execution and monitoring stage
  4. Project Closure stage
  5. Conciliation and Arbitration stage
Ensure proper documentation of correspondences exchange with the client.
Contracts engineer maintain the Green Book for tracking the proper documentation

Coordinates with other departments for timely submission certification.
Guiding the project team in maintaining the contemporary records and other necessary records required for substantiating the contractor entitlements.

Monthly update the Contracts Management Information System (MIS).
Contracts MIS provide the complete information of RA bills, advances, recoveries, Performance Guarantee, Taking Over Certificate, correspondence exchange with the client, a milestone achieved details, liquidated damages, approved claims and variations details, tracking Conciliation & Arbitration.

Prepare of rate analysis and cost estimates for the extra items, variation and claims etc.  
Ensure timely submission of bills, escalation certification and other receivables as per the contract.
